Spring 2014

Steve Iliffe and Richard Bourne look at the challenges facing an incoming Labour government needing to rescue the health service - and put forward useful ideas on how to do so. They discuss budgetary decisions, social and demographic changes, variability in service performance, increasing public expectations and intolerance of poor quality health and care, resistance to innovation within the health service, the need for joined-up services and improvement in GP services, and the need for integration of the social care sector and care homes. They also discuss public health, the need to repeal section 3 of the Health & Social Care Act 2012, democratic accountability and participation.
