Jo Littler is Reader in the Sociology department at City, University of London and a member of the Soundings editorial collective.
Her work is rooted in cultural studies and she has written on a wide range of subjects to do with culture and power, especially consumption, celebrity, and heritage, as well as gender, ‘race’, politics and environmentalism. Her most recent book is Against Meritocracy: Culture, Power and Myths of Mobility (Routledge 2017). She is also the author of Radical Consumption: Shopping for Change in Consumer Culture (Open University Press, 2009) and co-editor, with Roshi Naidoo, of The Politics of Heritage: The Legacies of ‘Race’ (Routledge, 2005).
She has edited a range of journal issues including Mediactive: Celebrity and has been involved with an array of cultural and political projects inside and outside universities
She is an editor of the European Journal of Cultural Studies is part of the editorial boards of Cultural Studies, Celebrity Studies and Triple C .
