Francis King lectures in Modern European History at the University of East Anglia, specialising in Russian and Soviet history. He has worked as a researcher, translator, and interpreter, and was one of the archivists at the Communist Party of Great Britain from 1985 to 1995. He has a longstanding interest in Menshevism and other non-Bolshevik socialist movements in the Russian Revolution. Other research interests include pre-revolutionary health services and local government in Russia, the origins of the Soviet planned economy and British communist and socialist history. He is the editor of Socialist History and a co-editor of European History Quarterly.
