Wark looks at contemporary demonstrations in Beijing, at the monumental architecture and energy of Tiananmen square and at past and future demonstrations that aim to subvert such design. The current protests, triggered by a meeting between Deng Xiao Ping and Gorbachev, is related to that following the funeral of Zhou Enlai in 1976.
