Relaunch Appeal

We have now published 30 issues of Soundings, and we need continuing investment to develop the journal. The New Labour project looks increasingly bankrupt, and there is an acute need on the left for a forum for radical and open minded thinking. Soundings has begun this task, and we now have a renewed editorial collective whose aim is to bring an extra edge and focus to the Soundings project, so that it can become a major intellectual resource for the left.

Of course such a project needs funding as well as editorial energy. So we are also launching an appeal for investment, to fund a major promotions drive, and investment in improved production values and press work.

Future Soundings coverage will include:

• Continuing political debate on equality, the audit culture, and New Labour’s embrace of the market state.
  
• Discussion on globalisation – resistance movements, new developments in South America, asylum and migration, analyses of new forms of international governance.
• Discussion on culture and politics – technology, religion, consumerism, individualism, risk, new varieties of nationalism.
• Historical analysis – reflecting on new and old left traditions, resisting the ‘year zero’ view of politics
